“Jana Gana Mana…”, was composed in Bengali by Nobel laureate Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. It was first sung on 27 December 1911 at the Calcutta session of the Indian National Congress. Later, the first stanza of the poem was adopted in its Hindi version by the Constituent Assembly as the National Anthem of India on 24 January 1950. Since its inception, the poem has captured and fuelled the pride and passion for the country among the hearts of Indians.

In the words of Tagore:
I pronounce the victory in Jana Gana Mana of that Bhagya Vidhata, the Lord of Destiny, the Reader of the Collective Mind of India, the Perennial Guide of India, who has from age after age held steadfast the reins of India's chariot through rise and fall, through the straight path and the curved.

These inspired new renderings of our National Anthem, were conceived to serve as a catharsis of the deep yet dormant emotions of pride and love we feel for India no matter where we live. I was not able to vocalise these emotions until we took this journey, a journey of almost 5 years where we truly explored India through film and music.
It can be best described as an urgent call to bring the great songs of the nation back to the hearts of people, to give the songs a new life, to not let them be merely revered as sacred relics, to bring to them an emotion relevant today.
Vande Mataram was the first step, followed by Jan Gan Man.....
Filming for the National Anthem was a very humbling experience and the energies of all the great musical talent of our country was magical as each gave of themselves unconditionally
to the one song that unites us all.....
Bharatbala
It felt important to treasure and record some of the greatest talents of India and keep
this idea alive as a timeless emotion and this is just the beginning. There is more to do.
